It's a Grand Old Thing

Well, it's been almost exactly a month since I had a moment to catch my breath and write. We've been busy even if I have to admit that it hasn't felt overwhelming. I know those days will come.
Rob and I have visited home brewing clubs all over the city and it's been great fun to meet all of you! I felt like I had some idea just how many brewers were out there, but you all came out and showed us great hospitality and friendship. You all applauded our (maybe crazy) decision to start Forever Homebrewing, and you all (very gracefully) reminded us of the items that we don't carry yet that you need.
Since 10 December we've been doing our best to figure this out as we go. In those two months, here's a few things we've discovered:
- Order more Belgian Pilsner malt than you think you need.
- Dry yeast in the top of the fridge, liquid yeast in the bottom
- If you can't put hops in alphabetical order in the freezer, you better have a map
- Everything on the shelf has to have a price label. Get creative.
- Dust. Will. Get. Everywhere.
- You can use sacks of malt for workout equipment, and 10lb bags of malt make great pillows for your kids to take a nap on a bottom shelf
- You all really, really, really wanted CO2.
So it's time to make it official. We're going to have our actual, official GRAND OPENING!
It's going to be Saturday 1 March! Here's what's going on that day in our store:
- We're extending our Saturday hours! New hours will be 12pm-5pm on Saturdays! (we're working on a weeknight hours extension, we'll announce it very soon we promise)
- There will be homebrew samples of shop recipes for tasting during in store shopping! Stop by and have a sip!
- Everyone that stops by will be entered into a drawing for one of two $50 gift cards! We'll draw at 5pm but you don't have to be present to win - we'll probably make a reel out of it!
- Since we can't have any types of "party" in our store (it's specifically forbidden in our lease), we're going to head to an after hours hang over at Covenhoven once we close the shop. It'll go until Rob & Matt have to go home and be dads.
Matt will also have some hot sauce to try (and "donate" to take home), and maybe there will be other things. We don't know yet. Even though we'll be official we're still figuring it out as we go.
